Before the era of production through machines, was the era of creation by hard work. The innumerable tasks in the kitchen that we accomplish today, were earlier done by hand, right from scratch. It was during this era, when Late Bhanumatiben Pannalal Shah decided to ground chilli in to powder by hand for neighbours and friends. A time consuming task for the everyday staple of Indian cuisine, her effort helped save tremendous amount of time and energy. Friends and acquaintances were some of the early customers. As they witnessed the process of dried chillies being ground to perfection, they also shared their experience with others. While the process of grinding chilies seemed simple, yet the results were remarkable. The quality of chilli grounded by Bhanumati Ben was far superior to others. The Secret behind this difference in quality, was the meticulous step of plucking away the stem of the chilli before grinding it. It wasn’t long before word spread, and requests for grinding other spices and spice mixes poured in. She should started selling her signature spice blend mix of pickles, and that was an instant success.
It was only a matter of time before the demand increase and this small business from home flourished. Over time, as the business grew other women joined in. This ultimately led to the registration of the business as a Gruh Udyog providing employment opportunities to scores of the other women in the community. Today, Gruh Udhyog as a cottage industry as well as our separate top-notch manufacturing facility are run simultaneously.
